Can you name an author who became popular after death?

Richard Yates, "Revolutionary Road" %26amp; "Eleven Kinds of Loneliness", was larglely unpopular until he died in 1992. Can you think of any others?

Reply:Well I think Anne Frank is a unique case. She had no idea at all how much fame she will get from her personal diary...She started out as a hobby and unknowingly wrote one of the most memorable personal documents of the WOrld War 2.

Emily Bronte is another. Jane Austen was still able to earn from her books, but Emily Bronte's genius remained unnoticed till she died. That time Wuthering Heights (her only novel) was not considered too much of a classic.

Reply:Poe is the first one that comes to mind (he was more known during his life for his work as an editor, critic, and lecturer; after his death his own stories and poems became much more popular), followed by Emily Dickinson (her poetry was largely unpublished until after her death).
Reply:Franz Kafka was largely unknown in his lifetime, and his work was only appreciated by a small number of people. The majority of his work was not even published until after his death...

Reply:Jane Austen. I don't think she became "popular" after death, but she still is popular today.
Reply:Well, there is one author who was popular before death, and when he died, it was in the news which is Lemony Snicket.
