Is Sophia really the most popular girls name right now?

I have heard that Sophia was the most popular name for 2007. How many babies do you know of that have been named Sophia (or variations of the name like Sophie or Sofia)?

Reply:We won't know the most popular name for girls in 2007 until May when the Department of Social Security releases the list, but I've heard that Madison will be most likely be #1 up from #3, even though it's declining in popularity, the #1 and #2 names Emily and Emma are declining in popularity much faster.

i only know 1 Sophia (5 years old) and 1 Sophia (14 years old)

Reply:I read in a newspaper article recently that Sophia was the number one girls name in the U.S. However, I personally do not know any babies by that name.





I have a cat named Sophia that is 3 years old. She's a siamese and I just thought she was kinda elegant like Sophia Loren. Where everyone else got the name, I have no idea.





I think the number 2 name was Isabella and I know tons of Isabella's.

It IS super popular....there will definatly be a classmate with the name at some point. I know 2 sophia's and 1 sophie.


however it's popular for a reason so if you can stand yelling sophie/sophia on a playground and ocassionally having another girl come running, then i say go for it!
Reply:I dont thikn it was number one, but it was in the top ten. I know probably about four kids with that name. Try, Sienna, Samantha.

Reply:If not number one, it's surely in the top 5. I think it's a gorgeous name and apparently everyone else does too! But I would never name my daughter Sophia at this time because it's so popular.
