Is Elena (and variations) becoming a popular name?

I picked it for my girl name and was shocked when a co-worker named his baby the same thing. I also just heard of someone else.

I thought I was being really original, but now wonder if this is becoming an "en vogue" name.

Thoughts?

Is Elena (and variations) becoming a popular name?
Yes, it is becoming a popular choice. Many old-fashioned names have become new again, or are getting there. Emma, Abigail, and Isabella are already huge, and names like Ruby and Jocelyn are getting there.

In 2007, Elena was marked #192 and it is still climbing. That's really not terribly common, but I wouldn't be surprised if it became even more popular in the next few years.

It's still a fine name if you aren't bothered by popularity.
Reply:hi, i'm elena too, and i kow other 12 ppl who are called the same... it kinda sux... Report Abuse

Reply:Elena is #192 as a baby name girl name, while its variations are as follows:

Aleena 614

Alena 675

Helen 348

Helena 535

Lea 681

Lena 453

Selena 320

There were 1,717 girls named Elena in 2007 in the US. That is 0.0824% of the total. It is becoming popular, seeing that it seems exotic and alluring but simple and easy to spell and pronounce. What more could you ask for in a name?
Reply:I know somebody named Elaina, not any Elenas, but she's a grown woman, not part of this new trend.

As Rose stated, Elena is only in the mid-100s, as far as popularity goes, so it isn't that bad. But if that is too high for you, there are many beautiful choices. You can always go for something else, or have Elena as a middle!
Reply:It is common. Be original and name your baby a pretty name because the rest of the world is looking for the most ridiculous name for there baby so they are sure that there will be no other kid with that name in the class.
Reply:In my opinion I don't think it's becoming popular. Names like Isabella, Ava (which I dislike), etc.

Alana (uh-lah-na) is a semi-popular name, similar to Elena.

It's kinda of pretty!

Reply:i am a preschool teacher (3 year olds), so i tend to see the popularity of names. In 8 years, i have only had one Elana, but that was this year. We do have a lot of Alana's.
Reply:It's such a beautiful name and I think it's becoming more common but still not as common as Riley and Madison (ick).

Also, I see a lot of Alana's as faves on this message board.
Reply:It's definitely popular. I met a little Alaina last weekend. Helena is just as pretty, but I think it's a lot less common.
Reply:Never heard anyone with the name.
Reply:yes but it is also pretty
