Would you name your baby a popular name?

Do you like popular names? In my opinion, I really hate boring, popular names. Doesn't mean I like names that are totally weird or unusual but when there are like, 5 Jessica's or 3 Emma's or 4 Emily's in one class, I really hate that.

What do you think?

Would you name your baby a popular name?
No, I wouldn't name my child a popular name. Popular names are for L0ozErS.
Reply:You should name you child what you love

Sometimes you can not control that

I when to 4 high schools, in my last, in the senior class, they was three Jodi's, two girls(Jodi) and one boy(Jody)

I met less than ten my whole life, yet, in one class there was three

My husband and I pick out a girl name that was on the top 100, but it was common is the south, not where we lived. We named her in March, for some reason that name took off that year, and been more common after.

If my daughter was a year or two older, she would be the only one with her name in her class, there will be at least six

You sometimes can not control names

Some names just get popular. Delila is one, a song came out, and for the next two years it was much more common

I think you should name you child the name you love
Reply:I would NOT want to name my child a popular name! As a teacher it's irritating having 3 Ashleys, 3 Emilys and 4 Jacobs in one class! I have to give them little nicknames. The problem is...when you name your baby some beautiful name you think is really unique, THAT'S when you find out everyone else had the same idea =( A teacher friend of mine named her baby Thor (cringe =\) because it was the only name she didn't associate with another kid.
Reply:Popularity does turn me off. I used to like Ava alot in HS and early college. But now I am plain sick of it. I guess if I REALLY REALLY loved a name it would have staying power (despite the popularity) but it does bother me.

Don't get me wrong, there are some popular names (in the top 20 or so) that I would consider using: Elizabeth, Olivia, Ella, Samantha, Sarah, Ryan for a boy, etc for instance.
Reply:I know what you mean. I hate it as well. That is why I am being picky with the name I choose for my child. I never liked the names you mentioned above. LOL Yes, I agree too many of them are in classes with the same name. What I also hate are middle names such as Elizabeth, Mae, Rae, Belle, Mary/Marie, Grace, Lynn, Lee/Leigh and Ann. They are such fillers and overused. I don't understand why parents can't be creative. I guess thinking of the first name took everything out of them.
Reply:Yes I would use a very popular name if I really liked it. True enough, my name is familar, but not overly common (Gail), so I wasn't "one of 5 Gail's in my class", but unique or distinctive can be isolating, especially for kid's who like to be just like everyone else.
Reply:i would pick a name that my husband and i can agree on. its hard enough finding a name we both like, i don't want to consider the opinions of others.

i will try not to take into consideration how his future classmates will view his/her name.

EDIT: sorry, i didn't answer your question. well , if the name we agree with is popular, so be it. so i guess i would pick one, just not on purpose.
Reply:Never!

Frankly, I'm incredibly surprised at the number of people that still do. Don't they realize that their daughter will be dubbed "Madison E." in a classroom with Maddie, Maddi M., Madison W., and Mads? Don't they realize how annoying that could get? Half the time I wonder if these people have ever seen the SSA list; on a question the other day, someone said the name Isabella was uncommon!

If I ever have another child, I want them to have a unique name that's still acceptable, like Juniper or Matteo.
Reply:i did work experience in a bnursery with 5 camerons 7 amy's 4 chloes and 4 courtneys. it was seriously confusing to say the least whch is why i go for names i know not everyone will have.

And to make it worse all amys were spelled different. Amy Aime Aimee Ayme Amie Aymie and Amiie :|

hen there was a child named Kayleigh that was spelled Khaihleigh, I was mortified for the child lol.

Answer my name question pleaseee :D
Reply:I wouldn't name my baby a popular name, partly for the reason you named. I wanted my kids' names to be unique and special. I love Morgan, for instance, but I didn't name my daughter that because there were just too many Morgans.
Reply:If I really liked a specific name and it suited my child - I would give her that name regardless of the current naming trends.

That said - I don't generally go for the generic common names - like Megan, Ashley, Brittany...(no offense to anyone with those names!)
Reply:my kid is called samuel-

yes there are hundreds of sam out there fem and male' my sam is unique

he goes by Pompom.

in the bengali custom we have nicknames for people and we use them for their first names- so there he is.
Reply:Yes it's very annoying trying to explain which Michael that you're talking about. Michael F., Michael F.(again), Michael H. and Michael D.

My name is Rachel and there's like 2 other Rachel's in every class that I've been in.
Reply:I really don't like popular names either.

my name is Katie and there are almost 10 in my grade (4 on my sports teams)and it gets very confusing, so we all end up using different nicknames.
Reply:Those are ANNOYING! There were around 3 Crystal's in my school once....Crystal B., Crystal H. and the other Krystal H.

So its like:

Have u seen Crystal?

Which Crystal?

Crystal H!

Which Crystal H?

CRYSTAL H WITH A 'K"

Oh sorry No I haven't

%26lt;%26lt;totally annoying%26gt;%26gt;
Reply:well i agree with u becuz some names just seem too common with no appeal huh well also there are classic popular names that bring out the appeal of a person. like my opinion, alyson, jeff, julian, joseph etc.
Reply:No i dont like popular names.

My names Lauren and in EVERY class ive been in theres always been 1 or 2 other Lauren. I hate it,,,, it does my head in.
Reply:I totally agree! When i have a child im going to be as origional as i can. Nothing too popular...like my fiance...Chris...there are soooooo many Chris's!
Reply:Nah. Thoes names seem like the common name for a bitchy girl in High School.

Nobody likes my taste in names, I would name my kid Bailey or Julianna.
Reply:Me too. I would hate for my boy to be the 5th Aiden in class.
Reply:I would go with the name that YOU love :) Something you might consider is giving a unique middle name....sets them apart from all the rest.
Reply:Yup same here like 3 Jacob's

or 2 Jay's

2 Aisha's

3 Fatima's
Reply:yup, totally agree
Reply:Never! I always go with the unusual...
Reply:no im ashley and im due to have a girl in 2 months and still thinking of a name that NOONE HAS!!
Reply:You are so right on the mark---it really is dreadful w/ like ten 'Taylors' in a class, etc.....You are soooo right!
