We named our daughter Ayla/ Isla as the pronounciation of the name is used in turkish (husband's birthplace) and UK (mine) but is the name actually popular in turkey?!
My daughters name is Ayla - is this name popular in turkish/ turkey?
It's moderately popular. I personally don't know anyone named Ayla, but I can think of a few celebrities named Ayla, like Ayla Dikmen (singer), Ayla Algan (actress), Ayla Kutlu (writer), and so on.
Reply:My Turkish speaking family here in Europe try to choose names for their children which, while they are Turkish, still don't sound too 'foreign' when the children go to school. I haven't heard the name Ayla, but did you want to give your child a 'popular' name? How many Elifs, Zeyneps, Hatices do you know? Some Turkish people have been fairly unimaginative when giving children names in the past. Mustafa, Mehmet, Hassan, Cetin. I even have a step son called Ali!
Reply:AYLA
Usage: Turkish
Possibly means "moonlight, halo" in Turkish.
